First of all - Happy New Year! 2011 is going to be an exciting year for us and we hope it is a good one for you too.
We normally try to release a new version of CompleteProject every two weeks and I just want to take a moment to explain why we will not be releasing a new version for the next few weeks.
Our new year plans for CompleteProject are going to start off a bit...disruptive. There are a few major features that we have been wanting to add to CompleteProject for awhile now, but we are finding ourselves limited by various aspects of the current application architecture. In particular, our synchronization architecture is limiting to our ability to do things like database updates and there is nothing we can do about it but rewrite it. From scratch.
This is a big deal. From a technical perspective synchronization is right at the heart of what CompleteProject does. This decision is more or less equivalent to ripping the heart out and starting again. As someone who has put years into developing CompleteProject, let me tell you - it's painful. ...but the fact is that CompleteProject is currently a beta product and if we don't make these changes now, then there will ultimately be a bigger impact further down the line.
So it is time to bite the bullet and get on with it.
What does this mean for you? A few things. First, we will not be releasing a new version of CompleteProject for at least the next six weeks. We know there are currently outstanding issues with the product, but it does not make sense to address these issues until some of the architecture work is complete. Please bear with us - under construction, etc...
Second, we have two great new features in the pipeline for this year: Web Access and SMS alerts. Web access will allow you to opt into viewing your data on a webpage at tasklist.com. This feature was always part of the CompleteProject roadmap, but due to customer demand we are going to speedup the delivery timeline.
SMS alerts was a feature request from a customer which we think is a great idea. Basically we will give you the ability to opt into receiving a daily SMS message which shows you the "Today" section from your task list. Just something simple to remind you what you have on today.
We are excited about 2011 - it is definitely going to be a big year.
