Hi Toby,
I've got a few more requests for the Gantt chart: would it be possible to show the current date bij a red line that runs down from the top? And when opening the Gantt chart, it would be nice if the schedule shows directly the current date. I would also like to be able to set the type of view of the year, week and date on top of the schedule as a certain default so that I don't switch by accident when I click on it. Also, when you look at your projects in the Projects tab, you can change the color of the Project Icon. I find this very helpfull, but I miss this feature in the Gantt chart. Could these colors automatically be added to the color of the bars from eacht project/task in the Gantt chart?
Maybe you can add these requests in an options menu for the Gantt chart. Then people can choose how they want to use it. These are just a few thoughts of mine that might help improve Complete Project. Hope you find it helpfull.
Cheers, Rianda

All good ideas Rianda - thanks! Some may be more difficult to implement then others, but I will have a look and get back to you.
>it would be nice if the schedule shows directly the current date.
The trouble is that the Gantt chart shifts when a task is selected so that the selected task is always in focus. Are you suggesting that the Gantt chart should not focus on the current task and instead the user will be responsible for scrolling to the date? ...using todays date as the starting point for scrolling?
>set the type of view of the year, week and date on top of the schedule as a certain default so that I don't switch by accident when I click on it.
So that the Gantt chart stays "fixed" on a certain view? Again - without the current task focusing?
>Could these colors automatically be added to the color of the bars from eacht project/task in the Gantt chart?
I see - you are using the folder colors to convey meaning about the project and putting that color into the Gantt chart makes it easier to read. That is a really powerful idea Rianda. I'll have a look.
>Hope you find it helpfull.
Very helpful! Thanks!

Hi Toby, I'll try to explain what I mean by: >it would be nice if the schedule shows directly the current date.
==> I use the Gantt chart to have an overview of the tasks that I am supposed to do today and further on. So when I click on the schedule tab, I am first of all interested in today. I would like the chart to show a red line for today, so I can see which tasks and projects are actual. After that I can click on a specific task to see what dates are attached, but to me that's of minor interest. Then I can also scroll the date from left to right. That's ok. Around this new red date line you could consider a view of 2 weeks before and after today (or make it custom so people can choose what they prefer).
>set the type of view of the year, week and date on top of the schedule as a certain default so that I don't switch by accident when I click on it.
So that the Gantt chart stays "fixed" on a certain view? Again - without the current task focusing? ==> Yes.
I hope this will help you out.

Think I got it Rianda - thanks! Let me have a look and get back to you. Sounds like the most important part of what you are asking for is the red line on today's date - which is a good idea.

Toby

Hi Rianda,
I have implemented some of these suggestions:
1. There is now a red line to indicate "today".
2. Project timelines are now optionally displayed according to the appropriate "colored folder".
3. Project icons are now displayed in the Gantt chart as well.
Improving the navigation on the Gantt chart is proving to be a bit harder (for technical reasons). I see your point - in particular with regards to scrolling to the left. ...so this is something we are still working on.
These changes should be in a release which is (hopefully) going out tomorrow.
Cheers,
Toby
